For your lawn and garden questions, call the Alabama Cooperative Extension System Gary Gerlach Plant Information Center, located at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Volunteer Master Gardeners are available to answer your questions regarding diseases, pests, soil test procedures, and refer questions or information on to the extension staff. Call 879-6964.

 

A plant diagnostic laboratory located at the center is equipped for long distance diagnosing of plant samples to diagnose plant diseases or pests and recommend appropriate treatment.

The Master Gardener course is an educational and volunteer opportunity offered by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. You may apply online or download an application in Microsoft Word (which can be filled in on your computer and e-mailed) or pdf format (for manual entry and surface mailing). Send the completed document to the address on the form.

Certified Master Gardeners are eligible to hold office and participate in all activities and events of the association. State association dues are $5 and Jefferson County dues are $12, payable by the end of each calendar year. Master Gardeners must also fulfill service requirements yearly.

 

Non-certified Master Gardeners are considered Provisional members being elevated to full membership upon certification of hours and payment of dues.

 

Membership Transfer

We welcome transfer members! An Alabama Certified Master Gardener from another Alabama county may join the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association by providing proof of state certification and paying annual dues.

 

Annual Dues

Dues are $17.00 per year.

You may also call the Regional Home Grounds Information Line at 1-800-644-4458. This line will be answered by a Master Gardener from Jefferson County or and adjacent county on a rotating basis.
